Method

Registration & Intake

Registration can be done preferably via online booking.

You can also email psychologiepraktijk.gistel@telenet.be or text 0497/665632.

An initial appointment will be scheduled, exclusively for the parents or young adult. The goal of this meeting is to get to know each other better and to gain a general understanding of the complaints, difficulties, and positive characteristics of the child, young person, and their family. During this initial meeting, I will listen to your story and request for help. The expectations of the parents and/or the child/young person will also be discussed. I will also explain my working methods, procedures, and fees.

Finally, we'll develop a potential treatment plan together, outlining the process and the key steps to be taken. This treatment plan will be adjusted, in consultation, throughout the sessions. After the intake, we always begin with an experience assessment.

Experience research & therapy

After the initial consultation, a standard experience assessment and/or play observation will be conducted, depending on the child's/adolescent's age and challenges. What's going on in your child's/adolescent's mind? Why do they behave in certain ways? What message do they want to convey to those around them? How does their self-image relate to this? What themes or questions are they grappling with? Because children often cannot (yet) express themselves verbally, this non-verbal, creative approach allows me to gain insight into their strengths, weaknesses, and mental world. This information can guide the treatment plan and support the therapy. Depending on the therapy plan, the nature of the complaints, and the child's age, therapy options are offered.

Research

Sometimes diagnostic testing is also necessary for determining intelligence (IQ), ADD/ADHD, or autism. This can be arranged in consultation with the client.
